Math Placement

All students must complete four credits of math (i.e., MAT112 or higher) as a part of the liberal arts core requirements. USF believes that your success starts with selecting the best math course that matches your unique background. The University permits students to enroll in an introductory-level Math course if they have earned a math ACT sub-score of at least 19 or a score of at least 480 on the mathematics section of the SAT. Students who do not satisfy this criterion may either enroll in MAT111 Elementary Algebra or demonstrate math proficiency by earning a passing grade on a placement exam. Learn more about this prerequisite requirement and the exam.

What you need to bring to New Student Registration

Parents and Families are Welcome at New Student Registration

We know that starting college is exciting for new students, as well as their parents and families. That’s why we invite you to attend New Student Registration (NSR) with your student. NSR is designed to help parents and families learn as much as possible about academics and campus life.

During this one-day event, your student will meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. Throughout the day you will also have the opportunity to ask questions about financial aid (e.g., work study and scholarships), student accounts (i.e., paying your student’s bill), housing arrangements, meal plans, degree requirements and more.

We also provide a special break out session just for parents. This session gives you the opportunity to learn more about the academic, spiritual and social growth your child will experience at the University of Sioux Falls.
